Clare Kramer: Actress, Mother, Film Director, Awesome Human
We're not sure when Clare Kramer finds time to sleep, but she is clearly making the most of every day. As Founder and CEO of Geek Nation, she has become a strong voice in "geek culture," as a contributing writer, podcast host and sought-after panel moderator at the big conventions. We'd even go so far as to call her a Darling of the Cons.
We were lucky enough to have her as a guest recently on The Human Kind Podcast, where her episode with fellow guest Ishraq Ali went on to become one of the most moving and popular episodes of season 1 of the podcast.
The mother of four began as an actress, appearing in memorable roles like Glory in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," C-C-C-Courtney in BRING IT ON and Alison in THE GRAVEDANCERS (which is incidentally where she and Allegory co-founder Megahn Perry originally met and became friends).
A few years ago, she added film directing to her repertoire, which brings us to her current project, JOYRIDER. JOYRIDER is a documentary film following the story of wheelchair athlete Andre Kajlich, the first solo hand cyclist to compete in the grueling Race Across America, a transcontinental bicycle race across the USA.
Andre became a double-amputee after being hit by a train in 2003, and took his new situation not as a disability but as a challenge. After entering the world of endurance sports on a whim in 2010, he became the USA’s Paratriathlete of the year in 2012. He’s taken the gold at the Panamerican Championship in Edmonton, the National Ironman 70.3 Championship, and the Ironman World Championship in Kona. an Ultraman triathlon (let alone 3 - Canada, Australia, and the World Championships in Hawaii), and was even the first to complete the grueling Brazil135 Ultramarathon in the Mantiqueira Mountains.
Along with Andre's sister, Bianca Kajlich, Clare is directing this film about Andre, which promises to be a moving and inspiring story. They are currently running a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funds to complete the film - see more about their story below and donate to help see this important story come to fruition.
